Building Department Overview


DUE TO THE INCREASE IN CONSTRUCTION IN OUR VALLEY PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT COMMERCIAL PLAN REVIEW HAS A LEAD TIME OF 8 WEEKS FROM COMPLETE SUBMITTAL AND RESIDENTIAL PLAN REVIEW HAS A LEAD TIME OF 2 WEEKS FROM COMPLETE SUBMITTAL .


The City of Kalispell’s Building Department performs plan reviews and inspections on all commercial and residential projects within the city limits.

Permits

Permits are required for building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, tenant improvements and fire suppression systems.

NEW - You can now schedule building inspections via email or text - please include permit or address number, type of inspection you need and a contact name and phone number. You will receive a reply with the date and time of your inspection. Reminder - inspections must be scheduled 24 hours in advance, we cannot guarantee same day inspections.

Requirements

Our website includes the requirements and forms needed for new construction, remodels, additions, tenant improvements, detached garages, and decks.

Responsibilities

In addition, the department is responsible for conducting Fire Life Safety inspections and fire/alarm plan review of commercial properties within the city.
