Water is sold from fire hydrants for the purposes of cleaning parking lots and controlling dust, etc., during construction. A Fire Hydrant Meter Rental Agreement Form must be completed by the Public Works Department prior to meter installation. A new form is to be completed for each hydrant meter connection. The Fire Hydrant Meter Rental Agreement form is available at the Public Works Office.
Requirements
- 24 Hours Notice for installation and disconnection by city crew
- Fire Hydrant Meter Rental Agreement Form
Prior to the installation of the hydrant meter, an $820 security deposit in the form of a cashier’s or business check will be collected. The deposit will be given to the city Treasurer for deposit.
Water Usage Fees
- $5.51 per 1000 gallons with a minimum of 10,000 gallons
- $40 Setting and Removal fee and 10% Administration Fee
Process
Public Works Water Division Personnel will install and remove the hydrant meter upon 24 hours notice of request. If the temperature is below freezing, the fire hydrant shall be shut off and the meter opened and allowed to drain after each use.
The Public Works Department will calculate the water usage, damages to hydrant meter if any, and administrative fees. An invoice will be sent to the contractor less the $820 security deposit received reflecting monies due on account. If charges are less than the $820 security deposit, the balance of the deposit will be refunded.
